You're reading: European Council sanctions 8 officials in Crimea for undermining Ukraine

The European Council has sanctioned eight more people who “actively… undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.”

All of them are law enforcement officials, judges, prosecutors and security officers who enforced Russian law in the illegally annexed Ukrainian Crimean peninsula, according to the European Council.

“Those individuals have taken biased decisions in politically-motivated cases, and prosecuted or oppressed opponents of the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol,” the Council said in a statement.

A total of 185 people and 48 entities have now been sanctioned for violating Ukraine’s territorial integrity. They are subject to an asset freeze and a travel ban to or through the EU.

Below is a list of the newly-sanctioned people and their alleged activities:

Mikhail Nikolaevich Belousov – A judge in the Kyivsky District Court in the Crimean city of Simferopol, who made politically motivated decisions against opponents of Russia’s illegal annexation.

Andrey Nikolaevich Dolgopolov – Chairman of the same district court in Simferopol who also made politically motivated decisions against opponents of the illegal annexation.

Yevgeniy Sergeevich Kolpikov – A military prosecutor who brought criminal charges against pro-Ukrainian activists and Ukrainian citizens.

Magomed Farmanovich Magomedov – A special cases investigator who led multiple politically motivated criminal investigations against the leaders of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People.

Leonid Vladimirovich Mikhailiuk – Head of the Federal Security Service and Anti-Terrorism Committee of  Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. Under his command, FSB forces carried out oppression campaigns against pro-Ukrainian activists, including forcibly transferring individuals to regions in the Russian Federation.

Viktor Anatolyevich Mozhelianskiy – Vice-chairman of the Central District Court in Simferopol and former judge. He repeatedly made politically motivated decisions against opponents of the illegal annexation.

Galina Vladimirovna Redko – A judge of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea, she took multiple biased decisions in politically motivated cases against opponents of the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol

Vladimir Nikolaevich Terentev – Head of the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee. He has overseen the Committee’s activities which continually oppressed pro-Ukrainian activists. Additionally, he lead the work of criminal investigators who sought to prosecute opponents of the illegal annexation.
