First Deputy Mayor of Kharkiv Ihor Terekhov and Senior Specialist of the Transport Department at the European Investment Bank (EIB) István Heinczinger have discussed the participation of the EIB in the creation of the Safe City system.

“During the meeting, the parties agreed that the EIB will provide €21 million to Kharkiv for the implementation of the Safe City project,” the press service of the Kharkiv City Council reported on Thursday.

In addition, Terekhov and Heinczinger discussed joint projects that are already being implemented by the city authorities together with the EIB. Among them is the construction of two new subway stations towards the airport and a depot at Oleksiyivka, as well as the purchase of new modern subway cars (the EIB provides EUR 160 million for these projects).

In addition, using a loan of the EIB (€10 million) it is planned to procure new trolleybuses. According to Terekhov, this project is at the final stage of coordination in the Finance Ministry of Ukraine, and the new rolling stock for municipal enterprise Trolleybus Depot No. 3 is planned to be purchased in January 2020.

As reported, the introduction of the Safe City system in Kharkiv implies the installation of surveillance cameras throughout the city, including on the roads, as well as the construction of a situation center near the airport, where all services will work, including Emergencies Service, police, medical emergency, utility enterprises, Kharkivmiskgaz and others. It is planned to begin construction of the center in 2020.
