Ex-deputy head of Kyiv Oblast Administration Oleg Mishchenko died of the novel coronavirus on March 29, his colleague Lev Partskhaladze said on Facebook.
Mishchenko was the deputy head of the regional administration in 2016-2017. Since then, he had served as a member of the board of directors of the Confederation of Developers of Ukraine, presided by Partzkhaladze, ex-minister of regional development.
“He was fighting for his life for a week,” Partzkhaladze wrote of Mishchenko. “However, a complicated form of diabetes in combination with the COVID-19 have won. Let us not underestimate this virus. Take care of yourself and your loved ones. May our friend rest in peace.”
Partzkhaladze later edited the post, removing the part about the virus and the diabetes.
Nine people have died of the coronavirus and 418 have been infected as of the morning of March 29. The highest number of the virus spread has been recorded in Kyiv. Among the 82 people diagnosed with COVID-19 in Kyiv are several members of parliament and officials.
Before joining the Confederation of Developers, Mishchenko spent many years in public service.
He held the position of deputy chairman for Housing and Communal Services and Construction at the Kyiv Regional State Administration. from December 2016 until August 2017. Earlier, he worked in various regions across the country holding top-level positions in local administrations.
