Ex-Member of Parliament Oleksandr Onyshchenko, who has lived abroad for several years, has announced plans to return to Ukraine in order to take part in legal proceedings and run for parliament.

Onyshchenko said on May 22 the first hearing on his case is scheduled. He said he would not attend but would appear at the second hearing.

“I haven’t returned to Kyiv yet, I just wrote to the judicial authorities that I’m ready to take part in my lawsuit. I think tomorrow there will be the first court session, and I will come to the second session. I think in ten days – two weeks,” he said.

Onyshchenko also announced his intention to participate in the snap elections to the Verkhovna Rada but did not say with what political force. According to him, this question, in particular, depends on changes to the law on parliamentary elections.

Onyshchenko said he intends to pursue in courts the prosecution of ex-Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on corruption charges.
