Officers of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have detained the former head of the production unit of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia, who is suspected of embezzling almost Hr 1 million allocated for the repair of track machines.

“According to the investigators, the official organized a scheme for embezzling money allocated for the maintenance of track equipment. He attracted representatives of an affiliated commercial structure to illegal activities. According to the concluded agreement, the contractors had to service machine complexes intended for the reconstruction of railway tracks. However, the parties to the transaction did not actually carry out these works, and the funds transferred to their accounts were withdrawn into the shadows,” the SBU press service said.

To avoid criminal liability, the official hid from the pretrial investigation authorities for a long time.

The police detained the ex-official at a railway station in Kyiv.

An accomplice of the detainee and the head of a commercial structure were notified that they will be prosecuted under Part 3 of Article 191, Part 4 of Article 191 (misappropriation, embezzlement or seizure of property through abuse of office) and Part 1 of Article 366 (official forgery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The indictments were sent to the court.
