A female protester of the FEMEN movement has attempted to break a fragment of the Berlin Wall on display near Germany’s embassy in Kyiv on Khmelnitsky Street.
“Protesting against raising the ephemeral wall blocking Ukraine’s path towards its European future, the FEMEN activist broke the legendary wall, a symbol illustrating the separation between peace and people,” FEMEN’s website said.
The protest was regarded as a symbolic gesture against artificial barriers blocking Ukraine’s EU visa-free status, and the monument was not damaged.
The National Police of Ukraine press service told Interfax-Ukraine that the FEMEN activist indeed staged the protest at the German embassy, but said she violated no laws.
“The police have received no complaints from the embassy,” the police press service said.
