Ukraine’s finance minister Oleksandr Danyliuk on December 21 called for the resignation of the country’s chief prosecutor, accusing him of stonewalling cases into alleged wrongdoing by influential oligarchs at PrivatBank, the country’s largest commercial lender which was nationalised late last year. Mr Danyliuk’s accusations came hours after news broke that PrivatBank, under state ownership since authorities found a $5bn hole in its balance sheet last year, secured a freeze on “worldwide” assets belonging to the bank’s previous owners, businessmen Igor Kolomoisky and Gennady Bogolyubov.
