Finland will help restore the infrastructure and Ukrainian cities, support the educational reform in Ukraine.
This was discussed during a meeting between Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Prime Minister of Finland Sanna Marin in Kyiv, the Government portal informs.
During the meeting, Shmyhal and Marin signed an agreement to continue the implementation of the project “Finnish support for the reform of the Ukrainian school” until 2023.
The project stipulates the financial support for educational reform worth EUR 6 million from Finland and up to EUR 2 million from the European Union.
“Since the beginning of Russia’s aggression in 2014, Finland has helped us on all international platforms, provided significant support in promoting reforms in Ukraine, in particular in the field of education. We highly appreciate and will never forget the solidarity of the Finnish people, their moral support and numerous donations to international humanitarian organizations to help Ukraine,” Shmyhal said.
Apart from Finland’s assistance in rebuilding and reforming the education sector, Shmyhal and Marin agreed to involve Finland in the future reconstruction of Ukraine’s infrastructure, using advanced technologies and European parameters, and the reconstruction of Ukrainian cities, towns, and villages.
“We expect to outline specific projects in the near future to be ready to embark on work shortly,” said the Prime Minister of Ukraine.
Moreover, the Heads of Government also agreed on close coordination of cooperation within the EU, in particular on Finland’s assistance in the implementation of reforms in Ukraine on its path to the membership in the European Union.
Ukraine is already a member of the European family, Marin stressed. According to the official, Finland, together with the European Union, will support Ukraine at every stage of EU accession.
On February 24, Russian president Putin launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops shell and destroy infrastructure, massively fire on residential areas of Ukrainian cities, towns, and villages using artillery, MLRS, and ballistic missiles.
