You're reading: Foreign instructor of Ukraine’s National Guard found shot dead in Kyiv flat

A foreign citizen who was a member of a special forces detachment and an instructor of the National Guard of Ukraine has been found shot dead in a Kyiv-based apartment he was renting.

The woman who owns the flat reported the incident to Kyiv’s Holosiyivsky district police, the media liaison office of Kyiv’s police said on Sept. 10.

“Law enforcers examined the scene, interviewed the owner of the apartment, neighbors and identified the dead person: he was a citizen of another state, born in 1982, a soldier of a special forces detachment of a foreign state, an instructor of the National Guard of Ukraine,” Oleh Voloshyn, the chief of the Holosiyivsky district police, said.

A starter gun converted into a traumatic one and a press card of a Ukrainian Internet portal carrying the dead man’s name were found in the flat, Voloshyn said.

Medical workers and a forensic expert examined the body and found a gunshot wound to the temple. According to preliminary conclusions, the man committed suicide. The final cause of his death will be established after a forensic medical examination.

“According to his acquaintances, the deceased man led a reclusive life lately and wrote a pessimistic post on his social media account,” Voloshyn said.
