SIMFEROPOL – The reconstruction of checkpoints on the border between the Crimean peninsula and Ukraine this August and September may cause inconvenience to the motorists, the Crimean branch of the Russian Federal Security Border Service (FSB) said on Friday.
“Due to the repair work being carried out, and the consequent formation of queues, we recommend that citizens crossing the national border in automotive vehicles plan their itinerary from August 5 to August 20 mainly via checkpoints in Dzhankoi and Perekop, and from August 20 to September 15 via Dzhankoi and Armiansk,” a statement said.
The situation does not affect citizens heading to and from Crimea on foot, Crimean border officials said.
The checkpoint reconstruction is being carried out by the FSB Border Directorate and the Crimean branch of Rosgranstroy, a federal state enterprise, to “raise vehicle and pedestrian throughput and to create most favorable and comfortable conditions for crossing the Russian Federation border.”
