TBILISI – Georgia’s parliamentary speaker Kakha Kuchava left for an official visit to Ukraine on Oct. 5, the parliament’s press service said.

During his visit, Kuchava will take part in a commemorative ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the Babyn Yar tragedy, mass killings of Jews by the Nazis in Kyiv.

The presidents of Israel and Germany and the parliamentary speakers of Austria, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Slovakia, and Poland will also take part in the ceremony.

The press service did not mention whether Kuchava plans to meet with his Ukrainian counterparts in Kyiv.

Kuchava’s visit is taking place amid the arrest in Georgia of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, who currently serves as the head of the Executive Committee of the Ukrainian National Reform Council.
