The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) on June 7 completed the criminal inquiry into the plot to kill People’s Front member parliamentarian Anton Gerashchenko, which was foiled by Ukrainian security officers in January 2017.

“Two formerly convicted citizens of Ukraine, recruited by Russia intelligence agencies to organize this terror attack, will now go on trial. Among those questioned in connection with the case is Nadia Savchenko [an independent member of Ukrainian parliament],” Gerashchenko wrote on his Facebook on June 8, citing data from the pre-trial investigation, which were made available to him as a victim.

The attempted murder indictments will be sent to a court soon, the deputy said.

“The prosecutor will ask for life imprisonment for them. The evidence gathered is more than sufficient for the guilty verdict of the court,” Gerashchenko wrote.

Also, Ukrainian law enforcers will launch an international manhunt for a Ukrainian citizen and a Russian intelligence officer, both presumably in Russia, who are suspected of having organized the murder plot, the parliamentarian said.

On January 20 the SBU announced that it had uncovered, documented and prevented an attempted murder of Verkhovna Rada deputy Gerashchenko. The operation to physically eliminate the deputy was planned, prepared and controlled from Russia, the SBU said. Two perpetrators of the crime have been arrested.
