President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky suggested ex-Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov submitting a letter of resignation, said Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Anton Gerashchenko.

“The president’s decision was to invite Arsen Borysovych to resign. And Arsen Borysovych made this decision. It was absolutely calm and weighed decision. It was being prepared for a long time and was known in a narrow circle,” Gerashchenko said on the evening air of the People against (Liudy proty) program with Natalia Vlaschenko on the Ukraina 24 TV channel on July 15.

The deputy minister also said that Avakov plans to take a vacation “for the first time in seven years as an ordinary citizen,” after which he intends to return to Ukraine to “help the president.”

“After the vacation, he will definitely return to Ukraine, and will continue helping the president in order to preserve and protect Ukraine and strengthen it in all directions where the president is doing it,” Gerashchenko said.

In addition, according to him, Avakov will help candidate Denys Monastyrsky in his work as Interior Minister. “They are well acquainted and a certain continuity is good. This is also good that the head of the ministry can be a person who for two years had been leading the legislative branch of government on law enforcement reforms,” Gerashchenko said.
