German Ambassador to Ukraine Anka Feldhusen says that Kyiv can continue to rely on Germany’s support for its territorial integrity and sovereignty, the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has said.
“Ukraine can continue to rely on Germany’s support for its territorial integrity and sovereignty,” Feldhusen said during a meeting with First Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparova.
Dzhaparova informed the diplomat about the situation in the temporarily occupied Crimea. She noted that international community attention should be paid not only to humanitarian situation on the peninsula, but also aimed at countering its militarization by Russia, which threatens security in the region and in whole Europe.
Another important area of cooperation should be counteraction to the Russian hybrid war, in the framework of which propaganda activities are carried out. In this regard, Dzhaparova condemned the trips of European politicians, including Germany’s representative Gunnar Lindemann [representative of the Alternative for Germany party, member of the House of Representatives of Berlin], in occupied Crimea for the “monitoring” of so-called referendum on amendments to the constitution of the Russian Federation and requested to formally respond to this visit.
In response, the German ambassador said that the German position on supporting the territorial integrity of Ukraine remains unchanged. Germany does not recognize or cooperate with the occupation authorities on the peninsula and supports international sanctions imposed as a result of the Russian occupation of Crimea.
The interlocutors agreed to strengthen cooperation both at the state and non-governmental levels in order to increase international attention to the policy of non-recognition of the occupation of Crimea.
Dzhaparova expressed hope that the “Ukrainian question” will be in the focus of the presidency of Germany in the UN Security Council and the EU Council, including for the purpose of spreading information on the occupation of Crimea in the world.
The first deputy foreign minister thanked the German side for significant financial and technical assistance. In turn, Feldhusen said that Germany will continue supporting Ukraine in the reforms implementation that is the key to the effective development of our state and attraction of foreign investment.
