NEW YORK – Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has met with the German and Argentine counterparts, Sigmar Gabriel and Jorge Faurie, on the sidelines of the 72nd UN General Assembly, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted early on Sept. 21 morning.

“Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has met with his German colleague, Sigmar Gabriel, on the sidelines of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly. The interlocutors focused on the mobilization of joint efforts towards settling the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the provision of Russia’s implementation of the Minsk Agreements, and the promotion of Ukraine’s initiative to launch a UN peacekeeping operation in Donbas,” the ministry said.

Gabriel emphasized that the operation’s mandate should not be limited to the protection of members of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) and should apply to the entire territory of Donbas, the ministry said.

The meeting between Klimkin and Argentine Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie addressed a number of bilateral affairs, including the possible time of the Ukrainian president’s visit to Argentina and the next meeting of the Ukrainian-Argentine intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation.

“Klimkin welcomed the practice of bilateral consultations between the Ukrainian and Argentine foreign ministries that was resumed this year. The ministers exchanged opinions on ways to boost trade and economic cooperation, in particular, in the energy sector,” the ministry said.
