You're reading: Germany looks forward to expanding cooperation with Ukraine in energy field

The energy partnership will allow Germany and Ukraine to expand and make more efficient cooperation in the field of energy and the environment, said Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy of Germany Peter Altmaier during the signing of a joint intergovernmental statement on the start of an energy partnership.

“The Energy Partnership provides both parties with an important basis for political dialogue in the energy sector. This will allow us to further expand our cooperation in energy and climate protection and make it more efficient,” said Altmaier, quoted by the German Embassy in Ukraine in a press release distributed on August 27.

At the same time, Altmaier noted that he was glad to strengthen bilateral cooperation and support the modernization of Ukraine’s energy sector in the long term.

The message notes that the energy partnership consolidates the activities of the Federal Government of Germany, which for many years has been actively working in this industry in Ukraine within the framework of bilateral projects.

“The already existing close cooperation in the energy sector between Ukraine and Germany is aimed at both climate protection and the economical use of resources,” the release says.

At the same time, the embassy noted that energy efficiency projects in Ukraine, in particular, the insulation of hospitals and schools, are supported at the expense of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. In addition, the state bank KfW is financing the reconstruction of a structurally important transformer substation in Luhansk region.

As reported, a joint intergovernmental statement between Ukraine and Germany on the start of an energy partnership was signed by acting Minister of Energy of Ukraine Olha Buslavets and Minister of Economy and Energy of Germany Peter Altmaier during a working meeting in Berlin on August 26.
