From June 1, the Cabinet of Ministers has appointed lifelong scholarships for Ukrainian citizens who rescued Jews on the territory of Ukraine during the World War II Holocaust.

The relevant decision was made at a government meeting on Sept. 8.

In particular, it is established that from June 1, 2021 lifelong scholarships will be awarded for citizens of Ukraine who rescued Jews in the country during the Holocaust during World War II and are awarded by the Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Authority Yad Vashem the title of the righteous of the peoples of the world or by the Jewish Council of Ukraine with the title of the righteous of Ukraine or the righteous of Babyn Yar.

Thus, the list of scholarship recipients includes 26 people, including 18 righteous people of the world, six righteous people of Ukraine and two righteous people of Babyn Yar.

It is reported that if necessary, the Ministry of Culture and the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance will be able to make proposals to expand the list of persons.

The amount of the scholarship is three subsistence minimums for persons who have lost their ability to work, regardless of the size of the pension or salary that the person receives.

In addition, the government revoked the 2016 resolution “On a lifetime scholarship in memory of Mykhailo Zhyznevsky” (Belarusian citizen Hero of the Heavenly Hundred) in connection with the death of his parents, who were paid this memory scholarship during their lifetime.
