You're reading: Government approves plan for marking Ukraine’s Independence Day

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved at a meeting on August 14 an action plan to prepare for and mark the 28th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence, according to a report posted on the government’s official website.

According to the report, a respective draft government resolution was developed by the Culture Ministry in compliance with a Ukrainian presidential decree.

The action plan envisages the holding on August 23 on the occasion of the National Flag Day of an official flag hoisting ceremony in Kyiv, other populated localities and foreign diplomatic institutions of Ukraine, as well as a culture and art event “Flag Day” on Sofiyska Square in Kyiv.

On August 24, Ukraine’s Independence Day, it is planned to hold celebrations with the participation of representatives of central and local executive authorities and local government agencies, people’s deputies of Ukraine, representatives of foreign states, international organizations, the clergy, the public, as well as to organize and hold celebrations in other populated localities of Ukraine.

Flowers will be laid at the monuments, memorial signs and burial places of prominent Ukrainian figures, fighters for Ukraine’s independence, deceased participants in the Revolution of Dignity, and participants in the anti-terrorist operation in Donbas.

Lviv will host a national television project “Ukrainian Song Project.”

In addition, it is planned to hold a number of informational, educational and patriotic events, thematic international conferences, round tables, and documentary photography exhibitions.

Ukraine’s foreign diplomatic institutions will hold festivities related to the celebration of the 28th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence, including with the participation of representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora.
