Ukraine has large logistical potential, but it should be developed, Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has said. He has called on Qatar Airways to expand geography of flights to Ukraine.

The press service of the Ukrainian government said on August 29 that the prime minister met top managers of Hutchison Ports, the global logistics giant, and Qatar Airways airline.

“The government of Ukraine is committed to full support and protection of the interests of investors and is ready to fully support the implementation of infrastructure and logistics projects in our country, as it will become a significant part of the global economy and the continental transport corridors,” the press service said.

Groysman said that the logistical potential of the Ukrainian state is significant, but it need attention and development. Specific projects aimed at improving the quality and safety of domestic infrastructure, development of ports is a priority for the government.

According to the report, boosting the potential, for example, of container transportation – first of all in the port of Chornomorsk (Odesa region) – will be an additional stimulus for development for both Ukrainian companies and foreign partners. In addition, it will give new jobs, attract direct investment and new logistics technologies.

Hutchison Ports is one of the world’s largest port operators. It operates 48 large ports in 25 countries and has a great interest in the development of container business in Chornomorsk.

Speaking with the top managers of Qatar Airways, Groysman sad that Ukraine, with its geographical location, fits into the development strategy of Qatar Airways, and the largest in Ukraine Boryspil International Airport (Kyiv), which plans to exceed the passenger traffic of 10 million passengers a year, can become a kind of hub between Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

In 2016, Qatar Airways became the best airline in the world. On August 28, the airline serviced a direct flight on the Doha-Kyiv route.

The prime minister also urged the airline’s top managers to consider the possibility of flights to other cities of Ukraine.

“The prime minister drew attention to the fact that the arrival of well-known companies in Ukraine is a signal of trust in the government and business environment and the belief in the prospects of the Ukrainian economy for the whole world,” the press service said.
