You're reading: Groysman: COVID-19 vaccine should be free, it is matter of national safety

The vaccine against coronavirus (COVID-19) should be free for Ukrainians, it should be paid by the government, because this is a matter of national safety and the health of the nation, former Prime Minister of Ukraine (2016-2019) Volodymyr Groysman said.

“We need to already be prepared for vaccination. Not to mention the fact that today there are not enough beds in Ukraine. And people who live in small regional centers, communities do not have access to medicine. I know many people if are sick with COVID-19, there is nowhere to do even a test, and they are simply treated with folk methods, but this does not help. Given that Ukrainian medical workers are real heroes. Today they are saving the situation and they need to bow low for this. But medical workers need support,” Groysman said in the program on the Espresso television channel on Dec. 8.

The politician said it is necessary “to seriously cooperate with international partners in order to purchase 100% of the needs of the vaccine.” He also believes that the vaccine should be free of charge.

“It is not necessary that people pay for it. This is a matter of national safety. This is a matter of mass safety of people’s lives. That is, the vaccine should be at the expense of the government, and this is absolutely normal,” Groysman said.

He said that it is necessary to find “who will bring it to Ukraine, where to store it, because there are serious storage requirements for some vaccines, this is a serious infrastructure. Then it is an important special operation that the government will carry out at a high level,” Groysman said.
