You're reading: Groysman: Ukraine shows signs of political crisis

In addition to all the crises of the past year, Ukraine is adding one more – the political one. The Verkhovna Rada is rapidly losing its stable majority and therefore cannot quickly make the decisions the country needs, leader of the Ukrainian Strategy of Groysman party, ex-Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman says.

“Lack of competence, lack of professionalism, and lack of responsibility of the authorities. This leads to many problems and crises: in the fight against the epidemic, in the economy, in the social protection of people. Now we are also witnessing a political crisis when the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine does not have a stable majority and is not always capable to make urgent professional decisions,” Groysman said at a party conference in the Vinnytsia region.

According to him, the main challenges that Ukraine faces today, in addition to external threats, are the destruction of state institutions, a crisis of people’s confidence in the authorities, a failed personnel policy, and a rapid decline of the middle class as the main engine of the country’s economic development. The reluctance to address precisely these fundamental issues leads to more targeted crises, such as the failure of the COVID-19 vaccination, uncontrolled migration, especially of young people, uncertainty with the provision of the elderly people, and an increase in poverty.

“Today, no one can answer what will happen tomorrow. The state has moved away from the problems of Ukrainian families. And this also makes us vulnerable. Ukrainians are tired of unprofessionalism, lawlessness, insincerity, imitation, and constant failures,” Groysman said.

In his opinion, this can be resisted by unswerving adherence to several priorities – this is empowering people with real power on the ground, a real fight against corruption, the formation of strong state institutions, and the solution of security issues.
