You're reading: Head of Zaporizhia regional council Bohovin resigns

Head of Zaporizhia regional council Vitaliy Bohovin, whom half of the parliamentary corps called self-proclaimed, announced his resignation. On Thursday night, the deputies elected the third chairperson of Zaporizhia regional council in the last decade – Olena Zhuk.

As the correspondent of the Interfax-Ukraine agency reports, chairman of the Zaporizhia regional council Bohovin resigned from his powers, which he received under scandalous circumstances on Dec. 15. Bohovin announced his resignation on Wednesday evening during a session of the Zaporizhia regional council.

“The events that happened here add us no credit and distract us from our main responsibilities. The purpose of the regional council is to work in the interests of the community. And people are waiting for important decisions to be made. Some people have voted both for me and for you. What we see, it’s not attractive. And especially does not please our voters,” Bohovin said.

44 out of 84 deputies voted for Bohovin’s resignation.

The second part of the parliamentary corps, which turned out to be in the minority, declared that this session was illegitimate. The deputies said that last week at the session of the regional council, its head, Vitaliy Tolochek, was already elected (one of the four deputies who left the Servant of the People faction in the regional council in protest against the forceful pressure on the deputies during the voting procedure for Bohovin as head of Zaporizhia Regional Council).

During the session, the Servant of the People faction nominated a new and only candidate for the post of the head of Zaporizhia regional council – Olena Zhuk – head of the patronage service of the ex-head of Zaporizhia regional state administration Bohovin, who was also previously an employee of Bohovin’s company.

At midnight Dec. 23, 46 deputies of the Zaporizhia Regional Council started voting, as a result of which they all voted for Zhuk. She took an oath.

Thus, over the past nine days, the deputies of the Zaporizhia Regional Council managed to elect the third head of the Zaporizhia Regional Council.
