You're reading: Holos says resignation of Razumkov violated rules of Rada

The resignation of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Dmytro Razumkov is the destruction of parliamentarism in Ukraine, the Holos party said in a statement posted on the political force’s website on Thursday.

“We are firmly convinced that the issue is not in the person of the speaker, but in the parliament’s observance of Ukrainian legislation. In the week when Razumkov was on sick leave, the MPs saw what would happen after his resignation: the vice-speaker, loyal to the Office of the President, simply broke parliament over his knee. A speaker who observes the regulations is the last outpost of the parliament’s ability to work as an independent institution. But this resignation means a complete and final concentration of all power in the hands of Bankova and will significantly complicate the work of the opposition. This will negatively affect other processes in the state,” the statement said.

At the same time, the party noted that “they opposed an outright violation of the law on regulations within the walls of the Verkhovna Rada,” and the MPs from the Holos, who voted for Razumkov’s recall, “deliberately violated the law.”

“The voters, in particular the Holos party, want us to carry out the program with high quality, to protect their rights and interests. Now the opposition will practically not have the opportunity to do its job. Unfortunately, Yulia Klymenko, Yaroslav Ruschishyn, Olha Stefanishyna, Oleksandra Ustinova, Andriy Sharaskin, Volodymyr Tsabal betrayed their values. These people violated their promises to voters and their declared principles and values. The Holos categorically condemns participation in the usurpation of power,” the political forces said in a statement.
