You're reading: Incidence rates of COVID-19 reach new peaks in Ukraine

The increase in the number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Ukraine in recent days has led to new peaks in the disease spread after about three weeks of stability.

According to the Health Ministry, in particular, the maximum of average daily incidence in two weeks in the first wave of the epidemic was 474 people and was recorded on the day of the first relaxation of lockdown on May 10, the second maximum with 847 patients fell on June 29, and the figure reached 881 people on July 30.

If between the first and second peaks, the local minimum was 382 people on May 29, the second local minimum was recorded on July 18 and amounted to 739 people.

According to the data of the Health Ministry, on July 30, a new maximum of the weekly average daily morbidity was reached with 992 infected people, while the previous peaks were at the beginning of May with 476 people and on June 27 with 917 people.

During the breaks, Ukraine reached local minimums of this indicator of 375 people on May 29 and some 717 people on July 11.

Probably, these indicators will continue to rise, since the Ministry of Health on Thursday also fixed a record number of 1,541 of suspicions per day.

The World Health Organization (WHO) indicates that the length of time between being infected with COVID-19 disease and the onset of symptoms is usually around five to six days, but can range from one to 14 days. In addition, in almost all countries, the number of reported cases drops significantly on weekends for administrative reasons. Therefore, the world uses graphs of the average daily incidence for the last one and two weeks.

Among other indicators, which began to rise sharply, is the number of COVID-19 patients at the present time, which for three weeks in July was kept within the range of about 26,000 to 26,500 people. However, over the past six days, this figure has grown to almost 29,000 patients.

As a result, Ukraine has approached 40 people in terms of morbidity per 100,000 populations, which is now more than in Albania, Bulgaria and Azerbaijan according to the Ministry of Health on July 27.

In addition, in terms of the number of cases in the past two weeks, Ukraine is still far from the same indicators in Europe, which the EU takes into account when opening borders. In recent days in the country, this value has grown to 29.5 per 100,000 populations.

In addition, the growth in the average number of hospitalized per day resumed: some 211 on average per week (the absolute maximum during the epidemic, the previous peak at 207 was on June 29) and 194 on average in two weeks.

The value of such an indicator as the ratio of the number of cases to the number of PCR tests, averaged over a week, began to increase. After falling to 6.4% in the middle of the month, it returned to the level of early July and now stands at 7.8%, with the government-set ceiling for certain regions of 11%.

The graphs showing the number of deaths from COVID-19 disease are still quite fluctuating. On June 28, they reached their maximums since the beginning of the epidemic: almost 18 people per day on average for two weeks and more than 19 people per day on average per week, in July they decreased to almost 15 and 14, and now again exceeded 16 and 17, respectively.

As reported, in Ukraine, the adaptive lockdown was extended until the end of August.
