Some 290 flower-laying ceremonies and 50 automobile rallies will be held in Ukraine on May 9, the police must be ready for prevention of provocations.
According to a statement on the website of the National Police, this issue was discussed during a phone conference chaired by First Deputy Interior Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Yarovy with the participation of National Police Chief Ihor Klymenko and Deputy Chief of the National Police Oleksandr Fatsevych.
More than 6,900 police officers and 1,400 servicemen of the National Guard will ensure public order during the events.
“Of course, there will be provocations, we must be ready to prevent them,” Yarovy said.
He emphasized complete and mandatory enforcement of laws and ongoing quarantine measures during the events. Additionally, the heads of units must monitor the situation and make relevant decisions, if necessary, he said.
“The police on the scene must raise awareness and inform citizens in advance about restrictions it imposes. The main responsibility lies with the dialogue police [the police’s communications department],” Yarovy said.
Klymenko, in turn, said he also expects provocations. Awareness is already being raised, he said.
“We’re not taking the side of one or another force, we only have the right to voice the point of view of the law. And in accordance with the law, our quarantine measures are ongoing. I address all employees – you must not fine senior ladies and senior men wanting to lay flowers. You must ensure their unhindered access to places to lay flowers in compliance with quarantine measures,” Klymenko said.
