Iran is in talks with the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry concerning reparation of damages following Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) PS752 plane crash, Infrastructure Ministry reported on its website following the outcome of the meeting of Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Krykliy and Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami.
In a course of the talk, Krykliy said that recognition by Iran of downing the plane was the first step towards finding the truth.
“I know that you are already negotiating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine regarding the settlement of claims for damages. We expect these negotiations to be successfully completed,” said Krykliy.
During the conversation, the parties discussed a range of issues related to the crash of the aircraft, and the Ukrainian minister stressed that the common duty of both parties to the victims and their families is to establish the objective causes of the crash and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We highly appreciate the fact that the Iranian side promptly launched an investigation into the crash in accordance with Appendix 13 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation (Chicago Convention). We are grateful for the access to the investigation to the experts of the Ukrainian competent authorities and the airline-owner airline. We emphasize once again that it should be impartial and objective and should be carried out with strict observance of the requirements of international law,” said Krykliy.
He also emphasized that the Ukrainian side confirms its readiness to assist in the investigation, and in particular: to ensure the analysis of data from the “black boxes” in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian minister also noted that the Ukrainian side believes that the final result of the technical investigation should be the development of effective proposals on how to avoid such tragic cases in the future.
Krykliy also said that Ukraine is conducting its own investigation in accordance with the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
“We know that the main criminal investigation into this catastrophe is carried out on the territory of Iran. But, nevertheless, the Ukrainian side is also conducting its own investigation into this terrible plane crash. Therefore, we believe that a joint investigation team can be created that will be an effective tool for cooperation between states and will contribute to an effective investigation of the case,” the minister emphasized.
He also recalled that the relevant requests were submitted by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine to the competent authorities of Iran and other countries, whose citizens died in this plane crash. Ukraine has also sent a number of requests for mutual legal assistance to Iran under a bilateral treaty and is awaiting a response to all these requests.
