The role of international experts cannot be exclusive in the selection of judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court, and the procedure cannot significantly differ from the selection in other Ukrainian courts, the Ukrainian president’s representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Iryna Lutsenko, has said.

“All recommendations will be taken into account, but only within the Constitution of Ukraine… A group of international experts, that is an advisory group of experts, cannot fully select the composition of the Ukrainian court. We are a sovereign state,” she told journalists in Kyiv on Friday, February 23.

According to her, the procedure for selecting judges of the Anti-Corruption Court cannot differ from the methodology under which the Supreme Court was formed, judges of the Constitutional Court were selected, and under which judges of lower courts are currently being selected.

“That is, the rules and standards should be the same,” Lutsenko said.
