The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained a member of the international terrorist organization Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) in Odesa region.

The man comes from Central Asia and is wanted by Interpol for committing crimes related to the financing of terrorist activities, the SBU press service said on Sept. 9.

“According to the SBU, in 2014-2016, the lawbreaker was on the territory of the Republic of Turkey, where he was recruited by members of the international terrorist organization Islamic State. Hiding from law enforcement agencies, the foreigner arrived in Ukraine. He was in our state in violation of the requirements of the migration legislation,” the message says.

It notes that the court has already chosen the detainee a measure of restraint in the form of extradition arrest.

“The search and detention operation was carried out jointly with the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Ukraine,” the SBU said.
