International investigators into the downing of flight MH17 in Donbas, eastern Ukraine, in July 2014 have taken note of the information published by Bellingcat on Dec. 8.

“The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) that is investigating the downing of flight MH17 has taken note of the information published by Bellingcat on Dec.8,” the Public Prosecution Service of the Netherlands (Openbaar Ministerie) said in a statement on its website on the same day.

“In September 2016 the JIT appealed to the general public to come forward with information on two individuals, known under the code names ‘Delfin’ and ‘Orion.’ Reactions to this appeal, together with this latest Bellingcat information, will be examined thoroughly and included in the investigation,” the statement said.

The JIT said it cannot comment further on information about individual persons due to investigational and privacy restrictions, it added.

A joint investigation between The Insider and Bellingcat used open source research, investigative journalism, and forensic voice analysis to determine the identity of “Delfin,” a key figure sought by the JIT, who has turned, to a high degree of certainty, to be Colonel General Nikolai Fedorovich Tkachev, currently serving as the Chief Inspector of the Central Military District of the Russian Federation.
