The situation with the emissions of harmful chemicals by Crimea Titan plant located in the territory temporarily occupied by Russia has normalized as the plant ceased its work, Head of Kherson Regional State Administration Andriy Hordeyev has said.

“The situation has normalized. We are monitoring the situation with Crimea Titan as for the territory controlled by Ukraine. In the morning of Sept. 10 we do not see that the plant is working. The pipes of the enterprise are not smoking. We have certain information and with a probability of 90 percent we can say that the plant is standing idle,” he said at a press conference in Kyiv.

According to him, Kherson authorities have thoroughly carried out preventive protection measures in the region. A meeting of the commission on emergency situations with the participation of all services will be held on Sept. 12.

“And in case of positive assessments, we will decide on halting the measures to prevent emergencies,” he said.

Hordeyev believes that to avoid such situations in future, it is necessary at least to transfer the plant to Ukrainian state control.

“This plant has never been notable for environmental standards and concern for people. It constantly poisons people, it just depends on the concentration of harmful substances,” he stressed.
