If the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decides to introduce a lockdown, all conditions and events must be clearly formulated and strict control over compliance with restrictions introduced, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has said.

“I want to remind you that a strict quarantine is introduced exclusively by the government decision. And I am sure that if a lockdown is introduced, we need clearly formulated conditions and rules for quarantine compliance. They must be determined in advance and communicated to everyone. It is also extremely important to monitor compliance with these rules. Because, unfortunately, we have many cases when decisions are made, but they are not implemented,” Klitschko said on the air of Ukraine 24 TV Channel.

He also stressed that if a lockdown is introduced, he will insist on maintaining the operation of public transport.

“I will insist: if a lockdown is nevertheless introduced, in no case should the work of the metro and ground public transport be stopped,” Klitschko said.

The mayor of Kyiv recalled that the metro was not closed in many cities around the world under strict quarantine. Because a considerable number of people working in the spheres of the city’s life support will have to travel to work.

“The main thing that Kyiv residents should understand is that transport will work for those who go to work and in really urgent matters. All the rest should be conscious and not endangered,” Klitschko added.
