Tour operators, hotels and restaurants in Kyiv have seen a shortfall of about $1 billion due to the failure of the tourist season amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has said.

“The pandemic significantly hit the tourism sector in Kyiv. Compared to last year, there were practically no tourist flows in April and May in our city. Tour operators, agencies, hotels and restaurants fell short of about $1 billion. This is also a loss for the city through the receipts of tourist fees and business taxes,” Klitschko said during a briefing on May 27.

He expressed hope that with the resumption of the ground and air communications, internal and external tourism in Kyiv will recover, while the lifting of restrictions will gradually occur following the example of European countries.
