Kryvy Rih has become the fourth city in Ukraine that joined the Green Cities Framework of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

A memorandum of understanding between the EBRD and Kryvy Rih regarding the city’s joining the program was signed by EBRD Managing Director for Eastern Europe and the Caucasus Matteo Patrone and Kryvy Rih Mayor Yuriy Vilkul during the RE:think. Invest in Ukraine forum, taking place in Mariupol on Tuesday.

Under the Green Cities program, the EBRD provides partner cities with support in the development and implementation of the Green City Action Plan and in identifying investment programs and receiving donor assistance. In particular, road maps prescribe measures to improve municipal infrastructure, air quality, cleanliness and accessibility of land and water resources, green areas.

Pilot programs were implemented in Georgia, Armenia and Moldova, after which the program was approved by the Board of Directors in the autumn of 2016. Program participants in Ukraine are Lviv, Kyiv and Mariupol.
