Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has held a telephone conversation with Canadian Foreign Minister Marc Garneau, during which the parties paid attention to Russia’s escalation of the security situation near the Ukrainian border and in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported on April 22.

“The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry told his Canadian colleague about the current situation in the zone of the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict, noted the illegal actions of the Russian Federation in the Azov-Black Sea waters, the militarization of the temporarily occupied Crimea, the Black and Azov seas,” the message says.

Garneau noted that Canada is very concerned about the increased military presence of the Russian Federation on the border with Ukraine and the threats that the current destabilizing actions of Moscow pose for the security of our state and Europe as a whole.

“The head of Canadian diplomacy noted Ukraine’s balanced position in the current situation, confirmed Canada’s unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and its Euro-Atlantic aspirations,” the diplomats note.

They emphasize that the interlocutors also discussed further cooperation within the framework of the Ukrainian-Canadian working group on mobility to strengthen dialogue in the migration and visa spheres.

“Kuleba and Garneau also coordinated actions in the context of preparations for the next stage of negotiations with Iran on bringing to justice those responsible for shooting down the PS752 aircraft and establishing justice for the victims of the tragedy and their relatives,” the Foreign Ministry said.
