Ukraine will definitely become a member of the North Atlantic Alliance when it meets the criteria for NATO membership, U.S. Charge d’Affaires in Ukraine Kristina Kvien has said.
“The United States is committed to ensuring NATO’s doors remains open to all aspirants when they can meet obligations and requirements of membership,” Kvien said in an address to the first youth meeting of the West-East, North-South Kyiv Security Forum, founded by the Open Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation, the foundation press service said on Sept. 24.
She said the United States stands by the declaration of the 2008 Bucharest summit that Ukraine will be a NATO member.
“It is important to remember that NATO membership is not a sign of military strength, but a reflection of a strong democratic society that believes in principles like equal justice for all, respect for human rights, transparency of government processes and free elections,” she said.
