The Ukrainian and European sides are now discussing various modalities for further interaction, one of the possible options is the launch of a military training mission of the European Union in Ukraine, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleh Nikolenko has said.

“Ukraine and the European Union maintain a regular dialogue in the context of the Common Security and Defense Policy of the EU. Let me remind you that within the framework of this policy, in December 2014, the EU Advisory Mission on the Reform of the Civilian Security Sector of Ukraine (EUAM) was deployed on the territory of our state. The Ukrainian and European sides are now discussing various modalities for further interaction. One of the possible options is the beginning of a military training mission of the European Union in Ukraine,” Nikolenko told Interfax-Ukraine on Oct. 4.

According to the spokesperson of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, such a mission could cover areas not yet covered by EUAM.

“First of all, it is about the educational sector, improving the professional training of Ukrainian servicemen. Contacts on this issue continue. We are convinced that the beginning of a military training mission meets the strategic interests of both Ukraine and the EU,” Nikolenko stressed.
