The Pechersky District Court of Kyiv holds a hearing on Wednesday to consider a petition from the Prosecutor General’s Office to choose a measure of restraint for ex-President Viktor Yanukovych in the Maidan case.

At the beginning of the court session, the representative of the prosecution recalled that at the last session the prosecutors challenged the defender Oleksandr Horoshynsky. The latter said that he needed time to prepare his arguments.

The defense also said that such actions by the prosecution indicate an intention to disrupt the meeting, since the documents from the prosecutor’s office were submitted right before the meeting.

The court announced a break in the session for an hour.

In a comment to journalists during the break in the trial, lawyer Vitaliy Serdiuk showed a statement signed by Yanukovych about his readiness to testify in the “Maidan case.” “The prosecutor’s office responds with a categorical refusal to readiness to speak via videoconference,” Vitaliy Serdiuk said.

In a comment to reporters, the prosecutor in the process, Oleksiy Donsky, said that this judicial procedure does not provide for Yanukovych’s participation in the videoconference mode.

A verbal skirmish arose between the lawyer and the prosecutor, defending the correctness of their position.

The trial is broadcast on the Sudova Vlada YouTube channel.
