Volodymyr Slonchak, the deputy mayor of Kyiv who is responsible for self-governance, was beaten on the evening of Sept. 17. The attack took place at Mytropolyt Lypkivski Street in Kyiv’s Solomyansky district. The assailant escaped.
Slonchak was hospitalized after the attack.
A correspondent of the online news outlet Ukrayinska Pravda called Slonchak in hospital. Slonchak could only say he was in an intensive care unit and excused himself due to weakness.
Slonchak’s condition at the time of hospitalization was grave and he received 14 stitches to his head, the press office of the Kyiv City State Administration reported. The doctors diagnosed brain concussion.
Since age 21, Slonchak has been working for the Kyiv City Council and the Kyiv City State Administration. He joined the city council’s staff in 2005 as a law graduate and his first position at the council was a legal expert.
During his 14 years of work within the Kyiv governance, Slonchak has concentrated on legal issues, including the legal side of urban development and land use.
