Kyiv has received the first of 20 new three-section low-floor trams, which will be purchased for the loan funds from the European Investment Bank (EIB) as part of the initiative of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, according to the website of the EU Delegation to Ukraine.

It is noted that in general, Kyiv will receive a loan of 24.9 million for the renewal of the tram fleet. It is part of the Ukraine Urban Public Transport project, supported by the EU and aimed at improving public transport infrastructure in Ukrainian cities.

“Kyiv received a three-section low-floor tram of the K-1T306 model. The car is equipped with 57 seats, in particular for persons with disabilities, and a climate control unit with air conditioning. In total, a 26-meter three-section tram can carry about 300 passengers. The first tram for Kyiv will be located at the Darnytsia tram depot and after the commissioning works will enter the route on the left bank,” the report says.

Trams for Kyiv are produced by Tatra-Yug LLC. According to the delivery schedule, all trams must be delivered to Kyivpastrans by the beginning of 2023.

“The new trams will not only increase the comfort of movement of residents and guests of the capital, but also accelerate the transition to more energy efficient and environmentally friendly transport,” Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.

The European Investment Bank has been Ukraine’s partner in financing public transport infrastructure since 2007. The EIB project Ukraine Urban Public Transport (Phase 1) project is a 200 million euros framework loan to finance public transport in 11 cities of Ukraine.
