Six cases of the COVID-19 Delta strain were detected through primary testing at the Oleksandrivska Hospital, the main COVID-19 hospital in Kyiv, the City Health Department reported on July 22.
The testing was done using reagents bought by the hospital specifically for the detection of this particular COVID-19 strain. The biomaterial has been forwarded for confirmation to the Kyiv City Laboratory.
Director of the Kyiv City Health Department Valentyna Ginsburg said that those infected with the Delta strain are between 21 to 73 years old.
Ginsburg noted that all of the knowledge on the Delta strain in Ukraine does not come from practice, but rather is passed on from the experience of foreign colleagues with whom the capital’s doctors are always in touch. In comparison to other COVID-19 strains, Delta is much more contagious, has a shorter incubation period, and more aggressive development.
“Vaccination. That is the word that needs to become the most important word for everyone reading this, until you are vaccinated,” said Ginsburg. “Stop finding the excuses of ‘not having the time’ or ‘I don’t want this vaccine, I want a different one’… No important task is more important than human life. Every vaccine registered in Ukraine is highly likely to protect you from death. Get vaccinated! Do it for yourself and your loved ones.”
The Health Ministry has announced the beginning of the fifth and final stage of the COVID-19 vaccination program in Ukraine starting July 21. Now every person willing to get vaccinated can do so. The vaccination is free. Vaccines are administered at designated hospitals and mass vaccination centers.
Organizations that have more than 50 employees willing to get vaccinated can get a mobile brigade to come and administer vaccines at their office.
