Ukraine demands the transfer of former president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, and is in talks with Tbilisi over the matter, Verkhovna Rada member Yuliia Klymenko said.

“We demand that Mikheil Saakashvili be handed over to Ukraine because he is a Ukrainian citizen,” Klymenko told journalists on Oct. 29 before visiting Saakashvili in prison in Rustavi.

“These talks are held at a diplomatic level every day. This process will take time, the issue won’t be resolved in one day. As the Ukrainian ambassador (to Ukraine) told us at the meeting, the talks have been going nonstop,” Klymenko said.

She also revealed the aim of the Ukrainian parliamentarians’ visit to Rustavi. “We are here today in order to make sure that Mikheil’s life and health are not in a critical state. We came to support him and also to make sure that everything is all right. We ask of the authorities in Georgia that he be moved to a properly equipped medical facility,” Klymenko said.
