You're reading: Kyiv reports no more than 3,000 Russian soldiers in Donbas

In some areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions not controlled by the Ukrainian government, there are currently no more than 3 thousand Russian servicepersons, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel General Ruslan Khomchak said.

“Intelligence reports that there are no more than 3,000 Russian servicepersons. These are officers, instructors, those, who help commanders to make decisions. Russian soldiers do not sit in the trenches, there is the whole ‘geography’ of Russia, Ukraine and other countries. All supplies of equipment, its repairs are 100% from Russia,” Khomchak told journalists in Kyiv on Nov. 25.

“However, there is information about the arrival of 10 and 12 groups of snipers from Russia, we saw them in Shyrokyne,” the commander-in-chief said.

At the same time, Khomchak believes that a military solution to the conflict in eastern Ukraine is impossible under existing conditions. “There is no military solution to the conflict. In many places, we ‘stopped at’ cities and settlements, where the conduct of military operations is difficult,” he said.

The commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also said that the decision to open return fire is made by the commander on the spot. “This does not require the approval of the presidents or the General Staff,” Khomchak said.
