Kyiv is tightening its lockdown measures and will close down all schools and kindergartens, as well as public transport, including the subway, Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced on March 31. Moreover, there are reports that officials are considering a 10 p.m. curfew if the coronavirus situation does not improve quickly.
“We have lines of ambulances in front of hospitals. We have no choice. Otherwise, there will be hundreds of deaths every day,” Klitschko said.
The new measures will be in effect from April 5 until at least April 16.
Moreover, current restrictions are extended until at least April 16, including the closures of restaurants and cafes, which have been limited since March 20 to take-out and delivery. It appears also that shopping malls and other businesses that don’t sell food will also have to stay closed, although the mayor did not specifically address these businesses.
Klitschko encouraged employers to let their employees work remotely or be granted leaves if possible.
