The city of Kyiv will allow restaurants, swimming pools, cinemas and theaters to reopen after several months of lockdown to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced during an online briefing on June 24.

On June 22, the Kyiv City State Administration published a set of instructions that included guidelines for indoor restaurants to reopen.

Now, pools, cinemas and theaters will also be allowed to operate, provided they abide by new hygiene rules outlined in that same document.

Swimming pools can reopen for individual training, children’s athletic programs and the training of professional swimmers.

For 50-meters swimming pools, there should be no more than four people in one lane during individual training and no more than six people during group training.

Smaller 25-meters pools are allowed to have no more than two people in one lane during individual training and no more than three people during group training.

Additionally, there should be no large gatherings of people in locker rooms and other areas around the pool.

Theaters and cinemas also can only host a limited number of people at once, and viewers must maintain social distancing.

Art and cultural events are also allowed, but large lines and mass gatherings of people are forbidden. Only one person is allowed per 5 square meters of closed space where the event is taking place.

During the briefing, Klitschko said that there should be no more than 10 people at such events.

Additionally, people are required to wear protective masks if the event takes place indoors. Also, such events are only allowed if visitors are provided with set seats placed 1.5 meters apart.

Fan zones — the large, open spaces where people stand to watch concerts and other performances — are banned.
