Kyiv City Council has provided the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) with guarantees for the conclusion of an agreement on the allocation of 50 million euros for the purchase of 50 new subway cars, Director of Kyiv Metropoliten Viktor Brahinsky said.

“We are modernizing the rolling stock with absolutely new and comfortable cars – there will be no ‘made in the USSR’. A modern rolling stock is much better, it can move at high speed and use less electricity,” he said on Facebook on Sept. 4.

Brahinsky also said that the purchase and equipment of subway cars will create additional jobs and show a good signal to other partners.

According to the chairman of Kyiv City Council’s standing commission on budget, Andriy Strannikov, the guarantee for the agreement with the EBRD amounts to Hr 17,000.
