Mobile communications operator Kyivstar is expanding 4G technology in popular tourist places in Ukraine, including Lake Synevyr and the slopes of Hoverla Mount, the company’s press service said on Friday.

Kyivstar said that in July near Lake Synevyr there were more than 9,000 subscribers who used the 4G network. Together they used 7,700 GB of traffic. This traffic volume, according to the operator, will be enough for seven months of continuous high-quality video viewing. The average speed of the mobile Internet here exceeded 20 Mbit per second.

On the slopes of Hoverla Mount in July 6,500 subscribers of Kyivstar used high-speed Internet (1,300 GB together).

“To make 4G available here, the mobile operator has installed a tower at an altitude of 1,280 meters. It operates at the 1800 MHz band, which made it possible to provide an average Internet speed of more than 40 Mbps,” the company said.

Among other popular tourist places in Ukraine, where Kyivstar has already launched 4G: Askania-Nova in Kherson region, the historical and cultural complex Zaporizhia Sich on Khortytsya Island, the Sofiyivka national park in Uman, Khotyn and Akkerman fortresses.

The company said that expanding the 4G network in these and other tourist sites is one of the steps to support domestic tourism in Ukraine. This is part of a memorandum of cooperation signed by the national mobile operator and the State Agency for Tourism Development. Other steps that the parties agreed on include assistance in spreading digital literacy of the population, researching tourist routes and disseminating information about tourist opportunities in Ukraine.

By now, Kyivstar has already installed almost 13,000 4G towers and launched high-speed Internet in almost 14,000 settlements.

The company plans to provide access to the 4G networks for 90% of the Ukrainian population by July 2022.
