Ukrainian International Airlines (UIA), the country’s largest private airline, will be operating a direct flight from Kyiv to New York on March 25. It added a second flight on March 27.
The planes will take off at Kyiv Boryspil International Airport at 11 a.m. on both days and land at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York for American citizens for those who want to wait out the COVID-19 quarantine at home, the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv stated on March 22.
Available for booking via the UIA website, the one-way price was showing at roughly $900, or Hr 25,089.
According to the U.S.-Ukraine Business Council, a 200-member organization, also said there was availability on a flight bringing Ukrainians back home to Kyiv on March 28 departing at 3 p.m.
The embassy recommends that Americans book these flights if they want to leave Ukraine soon. The plane is not a U.S. government-operated or -funded flight, and the embassy is just cooperating with UIA to provide travel information for U.S. citizens in Ukraine.
U.S. citizens unable to purchase tickets or without a valid passport who wish to book this flight should contact the embassy via email at [email protected] to request information on how to obtain an emergency passport. They also have to be registered on the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), a platform created by the U.S. Department of State to receive and share information.
U.S. citizens will need to secure private transportation to the airport, such as a car or taxi, as Kyiv suspended access to public transportation for non-critical personnel on March 23 and the embassy is unable to assist travelers with transportation to the airport.
Upon arrival in the U.S., passengers may be subject to U.S. Centers for Disease Control screening, health observation and monitoring requirements upon reentry.
On March 19, the U.S. Department of State issued a Global Level 4 Health Advisory, advising U.S. citizens to reconsider travel abroad due to the global impact of COVID-19.
