You're reading: Lavrov says talk with Tillerson showed no departure from Minsk accords

HAMBURG – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that he saw no sign of the United States departing from the Minsk agreements and that, on the contrary, Moscow and Washington are both keen on speeding up the process of settling the conflict in eastern Ukraine in accordance with the Minsk agreements.

“I do not remember President Trump proposing some other plan [to settle the Ukrainian conflict],” Lavrov said after a meeting between the Russian and U.S. presidents on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Hamburg on July 7.

“And today’s lengthy talk this morning with [U.S. Secretary of State] Rex Tillerson has not shown any departure from the Minsk accords either,” Lavrov said.

“The focus was on what is needed – just like in our yesterday’s conversation, in Paris, with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian – there is a common interest in speeding up the movement down the path that is contained in the Minsk agreements,” Lavrov said.
