You're reading: Lawyer predicts preliminary hearing on Sushchenko case to be held in close mode in early March

Lawyer Mark Feygin has said that he and his client – Ukrainian journalist Roman Sushchenko – will get acquainted with the material evidence on the criminal case on Feb.21, he expects that preliminary hearings on the case can be held in early March, the process will be held in closed mode.

“Today, my client Roman Sushchenko and I will get acquainted with the material evidence in the criminal case in the FSB Supreme Court, which means that in the coming days the investigation will draw up an indictment. Then it will go to the prosecutor’s office and after approval – to the court,” the lawyer wrote on Facebook.

He expressed opinion that preliminary hearings on the case could take place in the Moscow City Court in early March. “The whole process will take place in closed mode,” Feygin said.

On October 3, 2016, it was reported that Sushchenko had been detained “while conducting espionage” in Moscow. According to Russian intelligence agencies, Sushchenko is a career officer of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry with the rank of colonel. Sushchenko is charged with espionage (article 276 of the criminal code), which he denies.
