You're reading: Lutsenko discusses bill on anti-corruption court with Venice Commission

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko has discussed a number of bills at a meeting with representatives of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (the Venice Commission).

According to the international legal cooperation department of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the parties discussed the initiative of introducing the Higher Anti-Corruption Court in the Ukrainian judicial system and certain provisions of the draft law on amendments to the law of Ukraine on the judicial system and status of judges.

Lutsenko noted Ukraine highly appreciates the efforts of international institutions aimed at strengthening the legal system in the state.

“Participants in the event noted that the availability of a professional and independent judicial system is one of the main guarantees of existence of a constitutional state based on the rule of law and public trust in judicial decisions, observing the principle of equality before the law,” the report says.
